Accommodation for International Students

If you have any requests regarding accommodation, please indicate it on the application form. The International Office will try to meet your requests if you apply before deadline (1 May or 1 November). It is of paramount importance that you enroll in good time, as the housing situation in Aarhus is always chaotic at the beginning of a new semester.

The rent (does not apply for sublet rooms)

The rent for a single room is between 1800 DKK - 2400 DKK per month (Aug. 2008) plus a 4000 DKK deposit. The rent must be paid in advance at the beginning of each month on a special Giro payment form. This can be done at the post office or at the bank. The deposit must be paid to the Engineering College before 15 June for the autumn semester and 15 December for the spring semester. The first rent must be paid to the College upon arrival.

Please note:
If you have signed up for accommodation on your application form, we will provide a room for you. However, if you for some reason choose not to make use of the room, you will be obliged to pay for the mandatory 6 weeks' notice.
Once we have rented a room for you at a student hall, it is in general not possible to switch rooms.

The deposit (does not apply to sublet rooms)

You are required to pay a deposit of 4000 DKK to the College before 15 June for the autumn semester and before 15 December for the spring semester. Any damage to your room will be deducted from this deposit and the remaining sum(if any) will be transferred to your account app. 8 weeks after you have moved out.

Finding accommodation on your own

You are of course welcome to take care of accommodation yourself, if you wish, but you must inform the International Office of this. It is normally very difficult to find accommodation on your own as there is a general shortage of rooms suitable for students in the city - especially at the beginning of a semester. You should start looking at least a month prior to your arrival.

In order to be able to get rooms for our International Students we have to reserve the rooms for long periods. When you apply for a semester and wish for us to arrange your accommodation, it will be available to you for a certain period. Concerning the autumn semester, from 15 July-15 January and concerning the spring semester, from 15 January – 15 July. This means that you are obliged to pay for the rent in this period. These obligations do not apply for sublet rooms.
