Description:
Within the evident norms for designing shear reinforced concrete beams today, the following limit value has been introduced for the strut inclination cot(θ) = 2,5. Designing the amount of reinforcement needed in the beams is precisely based on the mentioned demands of cot (θ) = 2,5.
In order to investigate whether the existing demands can be increased, experiments with a total of 7 test beams, designed with different values of cot (θ), are performed. During the experiment performance, the beams are loaded with 0-60 % of the calculated ultimate load. Cracks in the beams are registered each time the load is increased with 10 %.
Based on theory, experimental data as well as the existing demands for crack expanses in the serviceability limit state, it can be determined whether it is possible to increase the limits for the strut inclination cot (θ).
