Backup of data
For students
The data on our file-servers are protected in several ways:
- The server room has an UPS connected which makes sure that the machines keep running during a power failure. There are also redundant power supplies in the individual servers, so that if one power supply should fail, the server will keep running.
- All disks are configured for RAID, typically RAID5. This means that even if a disk fails, everything will be able to run until we replace the disk.
Even though we have a stable operating environment, it is not possible to guarantee that system failures are impossible. This is why we also take backups.
All file-servers, i.e. G, H, K og S-drives are backed up once a day, typically at night. Therefore, it is always possible to restore the systems, as they were the night before, if the unthinkable should happen and a machine cannot be fixed.
Even though we have the possibility to restore the data as they were, it is NOT intended as a tool to undo accidents if you delete something by accident.
» For this you should use the "Previous Versions" function, read more here
