Description:
In relation to an ever increasing focus on the benefits of implementation of renewable energy sources in technical installations in buildings, the aim of the project has been to measure the performance on a Canadian Solar Wall (in Danish, canadisk solvæg). This is a patented type of solar air collector that uses a perforated metal plate to absorb solar energy and transfer the heat to outdoor air. Solar air collectors are widely used for preheating of ventilation air, but in recent years the application of solar air conditioning has been expanded to also include cooling.
Empiric measurements have been performed on a test rig set up at Engineering College of Aarhus. The installation has been carefully constructed and built, complete with measuring instruments for the purpose. One of the main goals of the test rig has been to measure the efficiency of the solar air collector. Additionally studies to determine pressure loss and leakage across the collector have been carried out. The analysis of the test results showed efficiency under the given operating conditions slightly below what had been expected.
The product of the project is a technical report which includes graphic displays of the measured data. Furthermore the report gives a thorough description of the encountered problems and the applied solutions and computations of the investigated subjects.
