City School of Aarhus

Description:
In a centralization process, the Municipality of Aarhus intends to build a new primary and lower secondary school where the buildings of Skt. Anna Gades School and Kroghsgades School are situated today. The school is meant for the pupils of Læssøesgades School and Fjordsgades School – in total approximately 1200 pupils.

The study is based on a proposal of the design of the school made by two students from Aarhus School of Architecture as their graduate project. Their design consists of three school sections in separate buildings connected by walkways on the first floor. Their graduate project is mainly focused on the superior design of the building, which has caused a lot of work making the design realistic.

The study is limited to the building containing the oldest pupils, which includes a large integrated gym. Based on the architects’ rough floor plans and 3D model the structural design of the building is elaborated, which includes an establishment of the static system. It is strived towards maintaining the architects’ ideas about materials, design and dimensions.
