Description:
The project constitutes of a conference centre, with fairly complicated geometry. The floor plan is shaped as a rectangular triangle, and both ends of the building are cantilevered. Finally the 1st and 2nd floor are dominated by a big auditorium, in which no columns are desired.
The objective of the project was to perform design calculations of steel structures, in which the desired shape of the building could be met. Furthermore the design was made, to ease the erection of the structures.
The solution can be seen on the illustration, where the steel structure is divided into separate girders, to clarify the structural system. The idea behind the design is that secondary beams and girders span between longitudinal girders in the grid lines 1-4.
The system has been analyzed with Finite Element Method, where each element has been verified in the ultimate limit state and the serviceability limit state, according to Euro code’s guidelines.
