Description:
Because of the changes to the climate and the increasing attention to the environment, the building industry is facing some serious challenges when designing new buildings. This means that the design team needs to figure out ways to lower the energy consumption of the building they are designing, due to the increased demands in the Building Regulations.
This project is based on Vildbjerg School, its energy consumption and how to lower it. The School was finished in 2007 and is thereby not subject to the demand of BR08. This is why there is a lot potential for decreasing the amount of energy consumed. There has been made analysis of the actual consumption, which has been monitored by the school. Then a Be06 model was made to compare with the actual consumption and the demands in the regulations.
One of the ways of designing a low energy consuming building is to implement Integrated Energy Design (IED), early in the building process, which has been used in this project, mainly focusing on Phase 2: design suggestions of rooms.
To accomplish the predefined target, to lower the energy consumption of the school, there was made use of the programme: iDbuild. A classroom was entered in iDbuild, and different parameters was varied and calculated, to make it possible to analyse the results and come up with different suggestions of improvements that could be made to the room, to decrease the consumption of energy.
The project ended up with a reduction of almost 20 kWh/m2 pr. Year, which means that the building now classified as an Energy Class 2. In addition, have recommendations for future use when designing a school been noted.
