Description:
During our 4th semester at this school we encountered the course Geotechnical Engineering. As this was just a small course worth 5 ETCS-credits we never got more than a brief introduction to this field of engineering. However brief it may have been it caught our interest, and so this project is designed to explore our personal qualifications in the field of geotechnical engineering, with further Civil Engineering studies in mind.
Based on the construction project Bridge over Funder Å-dal, a motorway currently under construction west of Silkeborg, we test our skills in geotechnical engineering. Our project contains a Part I; an introduction to the project and construction, a Part A where the basis of our calculations, parameters and geology is systematically explained and analysed, both in regard to the bridge and in general, and a Part B where the foundations of the bridge are designed according to Euro code standards.
The calculations in our report are based on drilling samples, consolidation test and other information provided in the tender material. In addition we have undertaken a geology excursion to Djursland and made a visit to the construction site to gain inspiration and knowledge for the report.
