Laptop on the network
How to connect your laptop to the school's network
Connection to OPENNET is through a wireless network adapter.
» Click here to see the guide on configuring wireless network.
If you for some reason can't connect to the wireless network, please contact helpdesk. Helpdesk can open a plug for temporary use in the room you're in. It's only this plug you're allowed to use, you are not allowed to use the cable thats already plugged into the schools equipment.
Configuration of the network adapter:
Your network adapter is connected to the schools network with a common RJ-45 network cable, not crossed. The network adapter is configured to obtain IP and DNS from DHCP. In Windows it's done like this:
Click the network icon in tray (or ), "Open Network and Sharing Center", "Change adapter settings", right click the network adapter and click Properties.
Make sure that TCP/IPv4 is installed and configured to "Obtain an IP address automatically".

What am I allowed to do?
The network we offer access to is a 100 Mb network. The following is required: a network adapter with a RJ45 plug (common network plug), and that it is configured to get its configuration from DHCP. The network is a private IP network, if you want access to the internet you need to use the schools proxy server.
See the section on the proxy server for more information.
You may access the internet through the schools proxy server, with the advantages and limits that exist on the schools network.
» You may access your IHA drives as described here
» You may use IHA's email system through POP3 or IMAP as described here
Note that you probably need to use your ISP's SMTP server to send email when you are at home. When you are at school you should use: smtp.iha.dk. As an alternative you can use IHA's webmail at webmail.iha.dk.
What am I NOT allowed to do?
It is NOT allowed to use a network plug which is not specifically intended for OPENNET, thereby it is also not allowed to use a network cable connected to the schools equipment.
You are not allowed to run services that are harmful to the network, e.g. a DHCP server.
It is only allowed to bring along and connect laptops. You are thereby not allowed to bring along a workstation or desktop pc.
The conditions for responsible use of computers on the schools network as described under "Responsible use of computers" of course also applies to laptops connected to the schools network.
