Living costs

Students will have to cover living expenses during their stay in Denmark.

Naturally, such costs tend to display individual variations. In our experience, these costs will vary from DKK 4,000 to DKK 5,000 per month (corresponding to 500-600 € ). The amount allows for some expenditure for clothing and recreation. Insurance and travel costs to and from Denmark are excluded.

Please keep in mind that Denmark is a fairly expensive country, and the high prices of, for example food and transportation, will often come as a surprise to many international students.

"I was really shocked to find out that Denmark is very expensive - prices are 3-4 times higher than in Lithuania. But when I got a part time job, I was surprised to learn that the pay for one working hour in Denmark is equal to working eight hours at home"

Virginijus Smitas from Kaunas in Lithuania (International Semester in Environmental Construction Engineering)

To bring down costs, you can get around in Aarhus by bike and you can buy a second hand bicycle. The presence of many low-price supermarkets (Netto, Fakta, Rema 1000 etc.) will also help to reduce the costs for students. As a compensation for extra expenses in connection with going abroad, the students may get grants from one of the EU-programs. This grant should be obtained from the home university.
