Description:
Breaking the boundaries of traditional design methods, parametric design enables the engineer to create elaborate and optimized design solutions without spending ages at the drawing table.
Parametric design becomes an especially powerful tool when it is implemented in computer algorithms, thus the design becomes dynamic. That way, the engineer can make adjustments to the design in minutes that would otherwise have taken ages to complete.
Utilizing cutting edge parametric software, a dynamic design of a court yard roof composed of several different algorithms was designed. The algorithms were created to optimize the design in each their own category. The optimization of each category was an iterative process that included optimizing:
- Structural efficient design
- Energy design
- Architectural expression
The result of this project was a design manual containing the necessary steps to create an optimized grid shell court yard roof on any given building.
