Dreaming about Denmark

The course is interesting; yes, it is a super course. Theory and practice are bound together, and you meet industry. It works well. Denmark is strong on wind, and I would like to learn more about it, because I see many possibilities. Spain is developing wind, and much is going to happen, so I take a lot home with me", says Cristina Cuesta Monar.

She is 22 years old and comes from Santander in Spain. She is studying in her fifth year to become a Power Engineer in San Sebastian.

"This is my last year and my dream is to find work in a consulting company, or to travel ... .. Here I meet people from around the world. For example, I live together with a Russian girl, and we learn a lot from each other about our cultures, about life and many other things. You learn academic stuff and meet new people."
She thinks she gets a lot of knowledge here. And she would like to return to Denmark.

"I will try to get work here in Denmark. I love Copenhagen, and there are many good ideas in Denmark. It is very relaxed here."
She is definitely a city girl, and although she enjoys nature and the peace and tranquility of Fuglsø, it is almost too quiet.

"I miss something city-like and some bars where you can get out and meet people and have fun. Here you spend 24 hours a day for three weeks with the same people...."

The Spanish temper is there, but Cristina also enjoys speaking a language other than Spanish.

"This is a really good course and the many different people from around the world make it exciting, and everyone has great knowledge. And not least, I am improvingmy English.

Green energy draws him

"I am very interested in grids, and therefore the case we work with here is highly relevant: how to get the green, decentralized energy into the big networks? Australia is not big on green energy, perhaps only in about five years. There we can learn something from you in Denmark, because we need to develop it at home. Problems connecting to the network are the same."

That is how Timothy Tonmoy expresses himself. He is 25 years old and from Melbourne, Australia. He is studying Power at RMIT in Melbourne and will finish in November this year. He has already got a job.

"I've already got a job in a large transmission and distribution company in Melbourne, and I am very happy."

He found this summer school while searching on Danish websites for green energy, in which Denmark traditionally is strong.

"I found out what it was about, and it sounded super exciting. Summer School Power is a great course, very informative and extremely well-organized. There is also a good contact to industry, and this is unique."

He is busy working on the project and he is hoping for even more contact and feedback from the businesses in the project. Otherwise, he highlights the social part.

"I love it here and I've met new people I will keep in touch with. One reason for me to come was also to meet new people, so I enjoy the social part very much here in this beautiful place. And I will definitely recommend it to my classmates when I come home."

Found nowhere else

"This is a new way to use your vacation and knowledge. Integration of wind energy is what we work with, and we have found good ways. There are no courses like this elsewhere, so it is unique,” says Christian Jensen, 28 years old.

He is a student at AAU (Aalborg University) at the Department of Energy Engineering in his 9th semester. He has one year left of his studies. Christian participated in the Power Camp in Zealand in 2007, when the idea arose.

"I kept updated, I applied and got accepted. And it is super! It is firstly a great way to meet new people with the same interest. These people care about the same things as me and the international network is really good. Secondly, many friendships have arisen, and I will definitely keep in touch with some of them."

He also emphasizes that they have gained an insight into business and industry.

"We have visited DONG and Vattenfall in Esbjerg, and we have new ideas and ways of thinking. The social part is also nice and we enjoy each other’s company very much, even sometimes until four o'clock in the night!"

He thinks the location is really good.

"It's a nice place because there are many activities, such as golf, tennis, badminton, soccer and swimming in the ocean, and I've used most of these activities."

He and his fellow students are busy preparing their project this week, and it is to be presented to the sponsors on Friday.

"It is three weeks well spent, and I would love to do it again. My dream is to work at a major utility company, perhaps abroad. And not least, to solve the many problems with the integration of wind energy and other green energy."
