Student Halls
The Engineering College can place international students in some of the many student halls in Aarhus. The overall administration of the student halls lies with the "Kollegiekontoret", which is not part of the Engineering College. This means that the International Office at the Engineering College rents the room on your behalf. You will be legally bound by the contract, and if you break the lease you might not get your deposit back.
The International Office will to a large extent take care of any communication between the students and the "Kollegiekontoret" but cannot change decisions made by the "Kollegiekontoret" regarding rent, termination notice, fees, etc.
Teknisk Kollegium (student hall)
The only exception is the "Teknisk Kollegium", which is closely connected to the College. 19 rooms at the student hall are reserved for international students and the International Office is in charge of these rooms.
Sublet rooms
Besides the student halls some international students will be offered to sublet a room from a Danish student. The International Office will arrange the contact between the 2 parties. The International Office is not responsible for the terms of contract regarding the subletting of the room, but will of course be available for advice and questions.
Moving in
Your buddy will have picked up the key before you arrive and will give it to you when he/she picks you up at the station and takes you to your room. If you notice any damage in the room or miss some furniture, you must inform the caretaker right away - otherwise you might be required to pay for it when you move out.
Maintenance and Cleaning
You are responsible for keeping the room clean and in good condition. You are also jointly responsible for maintaining the shared facilities (kitchen, bathroom etc.)
Moving out
Besides cleaning your room you must also clean the cooker, the refrigerator and your private cupboard in the common kitchen.
If you do not contact the caretaker to arrange a time for the final inspection, it will take place when you hand over the keys.
Please leave the key with the caretaker when you move out.
Please note: at Student halls administered by Kollegiekontoret you have to move out 7 weekdays before the end of your lease.
Inspection
The caretaker will inspect the room when you leave. You should clean the room carefully as the caretaker can be pretty strict. He will then send a report to the Engineering College, which will transfer the deposit to your account. If you have any complaints about the report, you must contact the caretaker, as the College does not have any influence or legal right to interfere with the caretaker's work.
