Teaching Methods

The studies are formed by af combination of various methods of teaching. Most commonly used are lectures for large groups, exercises with tuition, project work (with limited tuition) and laboratory work and excursions are part of above-mentioned methods.

Lectures

In lectures, the lecturer explains theory and examples, and students may participate by solving problems.

Exercises with tuition

The theory is pursued by examples and exercises. The work is typically carried out in groups, and the lecturer and a tutor will be available. Extensive homework, both regarding theory and exercises, may be foreseen.

Project work

In each semester a project common to more subjects is carried out. This project is initiated during some of the first lessons in the semester in two or three subjects, the theory of which is included, and is finalized in a concentrated one to two-week period.

Laboratory work

Laboratory work may be minor examinations with the purpose of testing and understanding the theory, or it may be a complete bachelor project, in which new materials, methods or constructions are investigated.

Group work

Exercises, projects and laboratory work are typically carried out as group work. Semester projects are carried out in permanent groups of 5 to 6 students in the first semester, being reduced to 2 to 3 in the last semester. Each group is allocated a working place equipped with computers, whiteboards, notice board etc. The group is a forum in which various approaches to a problem can be discussed and the best solution found through argumentation. It is the sole responsibility of the group members to organise their work, complete quality assurance on parts of the work and to produce a written report that documents the group's work.

Excursions

Often the theoretical lessons are supplemented by visits to consulting companies, where constructions are designed, to production companies, where parts of larger constructions are produced, or by site visits, where the final or partly finished results may be inspected.

Bachelor Project

In the last semester a larger, individual and independent project is accomplished.
