Windows, automatic updates

The IT-department updates the institutions machines with updates from Microsoft on a regular basis. The updates are controlled centrally from the IT-department, and are distributed when we estimate they are necessary.

In conjunction with the updates some users might be presented to some of the information stated below.

1:

When new updates are available a yellow icon shows up in the below right corner of the screen. The new updates can be installed by clicking this icon, but this is not necessary. The updates will install automatically within 24 hours, if they aren't installed manually beforehand.

2:

When the installation of the updates start, a yellow window will be shown. This have no effect on other programs that run on the machine. If a reboot is needed, the user will be informed about this before the machine is rebootet. It's also possible to choose not to reboot at this point.

3:

Updates are downloaded automatically from a central server. If a machine have downloaded one or more updates, but they still aren't installed when the machine are shutdown, the window below will show. It is recommended that you choose "Install updates and shut down".

4:

At special updates the window below will show as it's necessary to reboot the machine. This can be done right away by clicking "Restart Now" or done later by clicking "Close".

5:

When one or more updates have installed, it's shown by this green checkmark in the below right corner. The checkmark is removed by clicking it.
