Ongoing Project Your House
Research and Development
The project is about establishing possibilities for intelligent control of the energy consumption in private homes through the development of a prototype for a so called ’home port’. This port establish access to coordinated control of the different subsystems in a private home for control and surveillance of energy consumption etc. Key concepts in the project are coexistence of different technologies controlled through a common service layer in a private house. The purpose of this coexistence is to create interoperability between the different technologies such that energy consumption can be lowered and consequently lowering the pollution of the environment.
Common control of energy systems
Home automation has existed in many years and this has resulted in multiple communication standards used inside private homes (e.g. powerline, Z-Wave, Zigbee, Waveness). Different systems supporting these different communication standards will under normal circumstances not be able to collaborate. None of the companies delivering home automation devices have interoperability products that enable interoperability between a significant number of the existing standards. A complete solution will include registration of electricity and heat consumed and will be able to control access, doors, windows, indoor climate and entertainment devices as well as administrating alarms reported.
Existing products and solution lack facilities enabling interoperability between devices using different communication protocols, and this means that users wait investing in home automation devices until one can be more certain that the investment will be worthwhile in the future. The lack of interest in such solutions means that the society are wasting more energy and emitting more CO2 than necessary.
The purpose of this project is to create solutions that can easy the administration of home automation equipment and ensure interoperability between different protocols and as a consequence achieve important energy and environmental advantages. These potential advantages include both savings in private citizen’s economy as a consequence of a lower energy consumption as well as societal advantages in a lower CO2 emission.
Establishing interoperability between existing products
The new approach in this project is that many stakeholders jointly aims to create a solution the enables interoperability between existing home automation devices. Creating more intelligent homes will enable savings for the owners and well as for the society as a whole with improvements of the CO2 emissions to the environment.
